News from the North!

Got some news & pics to share from our Missionary Man!

He has survived the first transfer, much to his relief!  He gets along & works well with his "Father" (Missionary lingo for his 1st companion & Trainer), Elder Hansen.  So from what I interpretted from his last email, they get to stay comps.  At least for the next 6 weeks when the next transfer will probably take place.  He says he loves the people & the scenery.  He says WA is just gorgeous (as shown in his pictures, as well!) Yesterday he said they got to spend most of the day in the San Juan Islands.  "...and that was awesome..." :)  We sure love that kid...

Goofs...

... Looks cold.

Elder H. & Elder P... Again.

The one experience I had a good laugh about that he told us was when he & his companion were tracting at some apartments.  A "BIG black man" opened the door & without saying anything else, told them "I'm Jewish!!!"  & slammed the door. DP said he could NOT stop laughing... :)  He says that they have some baptisms coming up though that he is really excited for!  We couldn't be happier for him too.

All in all, he's doing well!  As always, sends his love & appreciation to everyone... And always reminds us to WRITE!!!  He loves letters so don't forget to show him some love!!!

Pretty cool... Sure do miss & love this kid!:)

Elder Pedersen is FAMOUS!:)

Yep, it's true.... He was on TV!  A news station in Utah was doing a segment on the 50th anniversary of the MTC & a 1-hour special on what goes on inside the walls, both of which I will post the links.

The first is the shorter clip, in which you can see the good Elder singing at the beginning of a meeting in the right corner, 3rd row back(they show that 3 times, btw!) :)  Pretty cool.  Show check it out!!!

The second link, I LOVE what they named it- An Army of Faith!  It's just interesting to know what goes on & how things work there (speaking as someone who has never been!:))  I can't speak for the rest of my family on this matter, but it at least gives me peace of mind for Jenessa, as she sets out for the MTC next week!  & we get a glimpse of Elder Pedersen deep in thought during that same meeting in the first segment of the special:)  Gotta love it...

Just awesome...

Special shoutout to our Aunt Meggin & Uncle Daniel for seeing the special in between Conference sessions & bringing it to our attention!;)  Love you guys!

Got a letter!:)

The man is in WASHINGTON getting his missionary on:) Elder Pedersen is his same, crazy, loveable self, but has also changed in sooo many ways... good ways, of course! (This, in the opinion of his older sister though!;))  But we got our first letter from him whilst out in the mission field!  We got a few from him while he was in the MTC- which he LOVED!  But the letters were a little personal to post.  SO... Here are some pics of him while he was in training AND his first postable letter.  Enjoy!:) :

From left: Scyler, Stefen, DP & Shadlan- infront of the Provo Temple
These are the awesome cousins that dropped him off at the MTC!

DP's way of doing his laundry... :)

Loving the falling snow!
Behind him, if you take a right at that light,
you'll find where DP spent the first 3 years of his life while Dad was going to school!

...... Nerdy little missionaries! Haha :)

Family of mine:

It's Sunday, around 12:30ish, so lunch time. Church has been cancelled due to the icey roads and large amounts of snow we got.  With that again, my companion and I are not allowed to take the car out :( So we can't visit members of the ward or investigators.  We live in a 4-pack.  For those who don't know, there are 2 other Elders living with us.  It's very hard because not only do we split the same ward, but Elder Hanson and I are white washing!!  YAY!  Ha so both of us don't know the area or the people, and past records are useless because they cannot be read.

We have branched off just a little bit and gone tracting.  I love it so much; we have 6 return appointments and place 7 Book of Mormons.  Mom, you were right about the Spanish.  Some door's we knock on don't speak English so it's hard to ask if they want Spanish-speaking missionaries.  I'm working very hard on it, and studying certain questions & phrases.

Side note though: one of the members own's a huge farm and 2 of their barn houses are a basketball & raquetball court!  Needless to say, most every night after planning we go and play, and I have yet to be beaten :)  Don't worry, I'm very humble :)

I love crazy ties.... You were right again.  My companion got this cool tie from Hawaii and he said I couln't get a better one.  So if you find a really cool New Zealand tie......  Well tomorrow is P-Day!!  I'll send photo's in a week or so.  I love you all!

-Elder Pedersen

Gotta love that kid!  He wants more letters... He LOVES hearing from friends & family!  His new address is:

Elder David A. Pedersen
WA Everett Mission
P.O. Box 13390
Mill Creek, WA 98082-1390

So get those letters to him... I'm sure he'll so appreciate it!:)  And check back again soon. We'll keep updating as more letters from E. Pedersen are received!!!

Until next time...

Overdue post.

Sorry this post is so late everyone... My excuse: I'm in mourning.  No no, not for DP being gone... :)  I had a great idea for the post I was going to do right after he left & it was going to be filled with some of the cutest pics ever taken of his last night with the family.  Then after his setting apart, I put my camera on top of the car while I was putting my son in his carseat- left it there as we drove away...  So I was in mourning for my lost camera & the numerous pics of D & the family that night:(  I wish there was some way I could download my mental pictures for you all to see because they were something special...  I wish I had pics of that whole last week actually!

The Monday before he left, we did family pics since our family technically won't be whole again for 2 years between David AND Jenessa being gone... For kicks & giggles, here are some of those pictures so we have at least one to post:)
The whole Gang

Just the boys.....
This one will go down probably as one of my personal all-time FAVORITES.  Love the bruddas in the back:)

Dad, DP & Mom

Then we had about 30+ of DP's closest friends over.  They all went out for a last hurrah dinner with the man & came back to play some mean games of Dance Central:)  That was..... INTERESTING to watch;)  But fun, of course.  We miss you guys almost as much as we miss D!

On Tuesday, we spent a lot of time together as family.  We had our "last meal," as DP was calling it, at the Olive Garden.  Then we left for the stake center & he was set apart officially as an Elder by Pres. Riggs. I think it's safe to speak for my whole family when I say that was such a special & amazing experience for our family to have together.  I also need to note, because DP said it needed to be put on record, that we were ON TIME to that.  Pres. Riggs has a fabulous memory of which Elders are later to their setting apart, which supposedly affects how quickly they're released when they come home. My husband, who was 15 minutes late to his setting apart, was released about 7 hours after he got off the plane... So... all of you reading this are our witnesses that DP was there on time:)

The next morning, he set off bright & early for the great state of Utah!:)  A couple of our RM cousins picked him up at the airport, which I think gave him a bit of comfort being with the guys who have gone through the same thing before.  They then took him to Provo & dropped him off at the Missionary Training Center.  And that's where his has been for the last 2 weeks. From what we've heard from him, he is LOVING it!  He has sent a couple letters & emails saying how wonderful everything is- the training, the food, his companion & district... etc.  And the overall feeling there he says is amazing!  He says the Spirit is incredibly strong there & he is learning so much!

It's interesting, as his sister (as I'm sure it is to the rest of our family) to hear & see the change already in him- a GOOD change!  More spiritual & more mature...... in some ways.  Don't worry, he's still that funny DP we all know & love.  For instance, I hope she doesn't mind me sharing, but in his email/letter to Mom, he writes, "Mom. Momma. Kelli. Keeeelli.  Kerry." - all of the names he calls her. And he signs his letters now "Bringer of the true word."  Haha That's DP for ya.  But with him sharing his experiences so far and seeing those good changes, we can't wait to see what happens after 2 years if he's already like this after 2 weeks!  We sure do miss him & having him gone is bitter sweet.  But this is definitely where he should & wants to be.

He did ask for addresses from all of his family & friends.  SO... Hopefully, we have a few of you reading this:)  I will be making an address book to send him so if you would, please send me an email.  My address is shaneNlonna@gmail.com.  Put your name, address & I will make sure you are added to the book!

Also, you can send DP letters (which he requested & would love!!!)  His address for now (until probably next week) is:

Elder David A. Pedersen
MTC mailbox #213
2005 N. 900 E.
Provo, UT 84604-1793

Another good way to get letters to him faster than the "snail-mail" is by going to http://www.dearelder.com/, click on the 'write a letter' tab at the top, then look for the Provo MTC out of the lists of missions.  It'll take you to a page where you will still need the address from above, but you can write him a letter from there, & it will be mailed & possibly delivered on the same day:)  AAAAND it's free.  (A fair warning:  DP doesn't have a ton of time to dedicate to responding to everyone's letters, so don't be annoyed with him or take it personally if you don't receive a speedy/lengthy response.)  You writing to him would mean more than you know to him & we all thank you in advanced:)

That's pretty much all for now.  As soon as we have his new address when he arrives in Washington next week, we will post it on here (and I promise I will be better!)  Remember to get those addresses to me & write DP!!!:)  Until next time...

WOO HOO!!!

Heel click... WOO HOO!!!

In the picture above, DP pretty much sums up all of the emotions felt during this phase of life for everyone involved in the process of  DP becoming a missionary- hence, the title of this post!:)   This last month was fantastic as he took a couple of giant spiritual steps towards achieving this goal. Earlier in the month, DP was ordained an Elder & received the Melchizadek Priesthood- now he's able to bless & baptize!  Then on New Year's Eve, he took his endowments out in the St. George Temple- a great way to end 2010!!!:)  The love & support DP received was overwhelming, all from friends & family that were able & unable to share this special day with him- The Pedersen's thank you all for that love & support!

All the family that attended from left to right:
Shad, Uncle Ryan & Aunt Dede, Mom, DP, Dad, Mamma,
Aunt Meggin & Uncle Daniel, Shane & Lonna.
(Not pictured is Aunt Lexa, who was taking this pic!:))

The Momma & her son!

DP & the proud parents

This was too sweet not to post...
Mamma & her 7th Grandson!:)

It was an amazing & special day  for all- one that won't soon be forgotten!  As mentioned in previous posts, we are all so very proud of you DP... Keep up the good work, Brudda!

A Priesthood Duty

I saw this today & thought of my brother... :)  Just a few weeks before he takes this next step in his life. It's just amazing to me to see the man he is already becoming all because of this decision to live up to his "Priesthood Duties" & serve the Lord...

I sure do love you DP & am sooo very proud of you!  Thank you for the example you have set not only for our brothers, but for your nephews, our cousins, & all of our friends.  This is a great thing you are going to do & I know you will be great at it.  Obviously, there are brothers & sisters being prepared for you to teach & bring them the light that comes from the Gospel of Jesus Christ..... Look out Washington!;)

"You are hereby called to serve.........."

...... in the EVERETT WASHINGTON MISSION!!!!

Well it's not Russia like DP was hoping for:)  But this is pretty much the next best thing & he's still pretty excited!  We've been told by a lot of people that it's a beautiful part of the country & he's always been a rain-lover so that's not going to bother him one bit.  He reports to the MTC (Missionary Training Center for those followers who are not LDS:)) on February 2nd.  Which is perfect because DP just got a seasonal job with Costco that ends in January...  Funny how these things just work out, huh?  Time to save some dinero for that mish... and a RAINCOAT!;)

Here's some shots from "The Opening!"  The last 2 came out blury (In my defense, I was operating the video-camera as well!) but it's pretty clear what I was trying to capture:

Most everyone that was there to support our future missionary... Feel the love DP!:)

Opening..........

Again... Blury but those are definitely smiles all around!

One proud Mama!:)  Those are tears of joy that he didn't get called to...  well, basically any 3rd world country or anywhere that would send his finger back to us for a ransom!:)

  Now the REAL countdown begins!

I can speak for my whole family (This is David's oldest sister, Lonna, doing the blogging, btw... Mom wanted me to make that clear...) when I say that we are all so proud of you & this decision you've made to serve our Father in Heaven, DP.  It's such a sacrifice for a missionary to willingly give 2 years of your life to this great work & you are no exception.  But I know that the Lord has prepared/is preparing some brothers & sisters there in Washington for you to reach out to & teach the Gospel.  You've set quite the example & set the standards high for not only Jase & Shey, but your NEPHEWS & younger cousins, as well.  I know the Lord is going to bless you for all these things... We love you D!

10/28/2010

Happy Day!

No, no.... Not a happy day because DP got a call in the mail....  Slight bummer.  AND I have to change the coutdown again!  Haha  I'm not quite sure which day I should be aiming for now.  Next Tuesday perhaps?
Anyway... Today is a happy day because it is David's birthday!!!  Yup.  19 years ago today, the peace & calm in the Pedersen household came to a screeching hault & ultimately ending the reign of the women!:)  Happy birthday D!  We sure do love you & are proud of you...

10/25/2010

COMING SOON!!!

I've had to change the countdown to the call several times now due to lots of changes in when the papers were submitted... It is currently set to this Thursday which is also DP's 19th birthday!  WOO HOO!!!!  But, I was told that Dave was informed yesterday by his bishop that his call was sent last Friday.  Which means it could be here as soon as TOMORROW!!!

The suspense is KILLING me!!!:)
